Explaining about Test plan components of STLC..?

  • here we discussing about components of test plan document in STLC process.
  • After completion of Test strategy preparation,Test lead concentrating on prepared plan document with the help of project manager and test manager.
  • It is detailed plan of the testing requirements like scope, approach, resources and schedules.
  • While preparing test plan document, test lead follow IEEE A 29 format.
  • The plan consists of
  1. Project Overview
  2. References
  3. Scope
  4. Test Strategy
  5. Test environment
  6. Test deliverable's
  7. Staffing plan(Roles & Responsibilities)
  8. Risks & Assumptions
  9. Milestones
  10. Approvals
1.Project Overview:
   - it means introduction about the project like modules and their descriptions and etc...
2.References:
   - To conduct a test on current project, the requirement documents referred like Project overview and F.R.S(Functional Requirement Specifications).
3.Scope:
   - it means list of modules to be tested
   - scope consists of two types.
a.In Scope - list of modules to be tested.
b.Out Scope - list of modules not to be tested.
4.Test Strategy:
   - in this different sub-components are there.
  • Testing Types: required testing for current project.
  • Entry Criteria: means When to start testing(after 100% unit&integration testing done, all test cases passed and reviewed and received developed software from developers then start testing).
  • Suspension&Resumption Criteria: means when to interrupt testing(possibilities like find major defects in application and is there any change request comes from client).
  • Exist Criteria: manes when to stop testing(like when all test cases executed successfully and passed, when all major defects rectified and test time duration is over).
  • Communication Plan: required communication plan between two employee's.
  • Status Reporting: while conduct test on application,to inform the work status ,we should prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports and pass it to test lead.
  • Test Execution Flow: while conducting testing, every test engineer must be follow test execution flow form test plan.
  • Defect Tracking: during defects tracking/find out, they can maintain Defect Tracking Team.
5.Test Environment:
   - the required hardware and software for current project mentioned.
6.Test Deliverable's:
   - For current project, which type of documents we need to prepare i,e called test deliverable.
   -Ex: test cases,test scenarios,defect reports,summary report etc...
7.Staffing Plan:
   - The team preparation on roles and responsibilities given to test engineers by test lead.
8.Risks&Assumptions:
   - previously analysed risks and to overcome them.
9.Milestones:
   - during testing,to prepare documents or to start execution, every tester can follow milestones.
10.Approval:
   - after completion of test plan document,we need approval/signature from Project Manger or customers.
